It was very late at night, and the insistent pounding on the wood wouldn't stop. As he opened the door, he was surprised to see her: it was his sister, the woman who should be the owner of that house. She immediately recognized the place: it was the one she had shared with her husband, the man whose image—alongside the incense jars and the shadows of a fleeting past—was etched into her memory like a chill.

She had fled. She fled the ashes of a speculated murder and an unwanted pregnancy, the fruit of her brother, who she knew would be capable of anything to dominate her. But now she was returning.

Her son was waiting for her.

The boy was not a troubled child; he was the incarnation of pure malice. He looked at her, and the desire he felt was not lust, but a visceral possession, the claim of a property that had always been his. When his uncle saw him, he felt a deep contempt for the boy, yet he recognized that he was exactly the same as him. The brother knew the truth: that boy was his own blood.

The conflict was not over a woman's love: they were two predators looking at each other and showing their fangs, just about to attack for control of their pack, their prey, or their territory.

After a tense encounter, the brother vanished. He simply disappeared, swallowed by the shadows of the place or by fate. The mother, in her blind innocence, approached her son seeking comfort. Unknowing, she was encouraging him, drawing the beast that had grown up to kill his uncle/father.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she comprehended the truth: her son was a monster. She had stopped being her brother's slave only to become, now, the slave of her own blood.

He walked over to some ashes and lit an incense stick, a dense smoke rising like an offering to the new domination.
